And the Award goes to...
Nikki Turk from MS Amlin, syndicate 3210, for being a dedicated Reading and Numbers Partner at St Anne’s Catholic Primary School for the past three years. She is proactively inspiring colleagues to volunteer and is a member of the CSR Working Group. She also volunteered in the Lloyd’s Community Programme Summer Neighbourhood Games in 2015.
When asked about the reasons for volunteering, Nikki said: “With regard to why I began in the first place; My husband was off long term with a back problem and decided to help out the local primary school which included Reading, Maths etc. which he really enjoyed. So when I found out about the LCP I couldn’t wait to get my DBS Check and get started. This is now my 3rd year, having started with Reading initially and this year I’ve moved over to Maths. It’s only one hour out of time per week to help young children who may not be as fortunate as my own children with one to one time. I’ve concentrated on times tables this year and it’s great to see that Shannon is becoming more accomplished at her tables. If I am unfortunate to miss a week, I usually find that Shannon has drawn me a picture for my return. I enjoy encouraging my colleagues to join in every week and if I could, I’d have a bus load of staff to the school on a weekly basis. The Sports Day Volunteering last Summer was exhausting but it was great to see children getting involved in Sports of all sorts and getting active. I endorse the programme and would love to see many more volunteers.”
Congratulations Nikki – we hope you keep up the good work!
