Would You Like To Become A Charity Trustee?

Ian Mikardo High School, in Bromley by Bow, London E3, is widely recognised as an outstanding educational environment in which disadvantaged young people make outstanding progress.

The school’s 40 students all have complex social, emotional and mental health needs, and histories of educational failure.

Over the last 8 years, 95% of our Year 11, 12 and 13 leavers have progressed to further education, training or employment.

Since 2008, the school’s students have been supported by a registered charity, Friends of Ian Mikardo High School (Charity Commission number 1123143).

Due to forthcoming resignations (for personal reasons), we have vacancies for three trustees. FoIMHS was set up to supplement the school’s local authority funding and has supported essential aspects of school life, such as employing a family engagement officer.

Fundraising is done by school staff, but we need committed, independent trustees to oversee the transfer of funds to the school. They attend two late afternoon meetings a year at the school, and ensure that the charity’s Annual Return is completed by an external accountant. Other business is conducted via email. Trustees are likely to be professional people who live or work in Tower Hamlets and have an interest in supporting vulnerable young people.

We hope they will want to engage with the school’s friendly, dynamic and diverse community, and we invite prospective trustees to visit.
